Whether you're a pro or hobbyist, you never know when that next performance opportunity may surprise you.
This past week after a random conversation with one of the worship pastors at church, I was invited to come perform at our monthly Backstage Night. This is a night where the arts ministry team comes together for some fellowship and food.
I was a ecstatic as well as a bit nervous, as I was asked to perform some of my Disney arrangements, which I recorded about a year ago and yet to really perform any publicly. I spent a day or two practicing to get those fingers working again, as I was not really opening up the option of missing a note!
The performances went great, and it was truly a blessing to get to perform what I consider some of the most beautiful songs ever written, with my own twist, for friends and team members.
You never know when you'll get asked to play, so even if you feel you're not ready at the moment, everyone needs a little warming up. Don't turn down opportunity.
Also, the most comical thing about the performance was the surprise backdrop for me. After reading an interview with No Doubt years ago, they mentioned how the coolest gig they did was playing in front of It's A Small World in Anaheim. I always dreamed of maybe one day getting to play in front of the castle and how awesome that would be.
God has quite the sense of humor sometimes.
